Biography
KaKyung Cho is an artist based in Newburgh, New York, who moved there from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A 2017 studio profile by Uncommon Goods says she studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, drew daily from early childhood, and built a small business making hand-cut soaps in geometric forms with packaging she designed herself. The profile also notes she was then taking ceramics classes. At Holland Tunnel Gallery she took part in Framed (2014), the 110-artist Stairmasters project in Williamsburg, and followed the gallery north.
She showed in the Grand Opening of Holland Tunnel Newburgh in May 2018, in the 2018 holiday art sale, and in the 2019 Newburgh Open Studios. In fall 2019 she was one of the Hudson Valley ceramic artists in Earth & Spirit, with Tony Moore, Lynn Isaacson, Peter Yamaoka and Richard Lethen. In summer 2023 she exhibited in Wood, Wool, Glass & Clay, a group show about how material choices shape narrative, with Naomi Beth Gans, Romina Gonzales, Stuart Sachs, Tina Scepanovic and Jason Bauer.
Practice. Ceramics and handmade, design-driven objects. The gallery grouped her with Hudson Valley ceramic artists (2019) and in a materials-focused show (2023). Her soap work uses simple geometric forms and minimal, self-designed packaging.
