Aaron Latos

Biography

Aaron Latos is a working drummer from West Virginia who spent years in the jazz world before crossing into Americana and indie rock. In 2012 Modern Drummer profiled him as the drummer of These United States, a touring band playing 150 to 200 shows a year. He got the job on the recommendation of his friend and drum mentor Ray Rizzo, and he talked about the value of "cross training" across genres.

He has since toured with country singer Margo Price and played locally with the Stephen Clair Band. Latos is also a drum maker. At Latos Drums, his workshop in Newburgh, he builds snare drums, toms and bass drums from nickel silver and brass, making nearly every part in house.

He holds a patent on a snare throw-off mechanism, and Zildjian commissioned him to build 400 snare drums for the cymbal maker's 400th anniversary. The Highlands Current profiled him in 2025 as "Beacon's Beat Maker." At Holland Tunnel he kept time for the house band. He played drums in Heleen Schuttevaêr's Holland Tunnel Jazz Quartet for the gallery's 25th anniversary in May 2022, led the Aaron Latos Trio at a Happy Hour Jazz evening that April, and returned for Final Blast, the Newburgh closing party, in November 2023.
