Apathy Press Poets: Book Launch & Readings
Readings and a book launch with the Apathy Press poets Carl Watson, Jennifer Blowdryer, Shiv Mirabito, Sparrow and publisher Tom Diventi, as part of Upstate Art Weekend.
About the show
As part of Upstate Art Weekend, Holland Tunnel Gallery Newburgh presented a book launch and readings by Apathy Press Books poets Carl Watson, Jennifer Blowdryer, Shiv Mirabito, Sparrow and Tom Diventi, the publisher of Apathy Press Books. All the authors had new books published by Apathy Press. Readings began at 3 pm, with breaks in between.
Tom Diventi, the founder of Apathy Press, says his literary ancestors are Ferlinghetti, Ginsberg and the other significant Beat generation poets, a group bonded together by their alienation from the status quo. He was in the now-defunct Sherman's Bookstore in downtown Baltimore when he saw a button that read "Apathy," and it started him thinking about apathy as a concept: "it's a catalyst for action. You can't have sloth without work. Apathy is a great motivator."
