Holland Tunnel is pleased to present Oracle, the 7th exhibition of the Paros, Greece Holland Tunnel Gallery.  The exhibition features painting, sculpture, works on paper and photography by local and international artists inspired by this timeless theme.

Oracles were common in many civilizations of antiquity.  An oracle is a person or agency considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion, an infallible authority, usually spiritual in nature.  An oracle is also defined as a prediction of the future, from the gods, that is spoken through another object or life-form.  In Greece, the oracle of Delphi was the most famous in antiquity.

The exhibition will feature works by: Angiola Churchill, Susan Daboll, Fran Kornfeld, Claudia Lazzarini, Paulien Lethen, Alexandra Limpert, Jos Looise, Bix Lye, Alice Wallace Meyer, Jan Mulder, Jacques Roch, Toni Roch, Jennifer Toth, Hugh Townley and Thornton Willis.

Holland Tunnel Gallery Paros is located in the former storage rooms and courtyard of a 17th century merchant’s house, off the main shopping street in Paroikia, between Aghia Triada church and the Pirate bar.  The gallery is an extension of the Holland Tunnel Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York USA, an area now internationally known for its art scene and many galleries.  Holland Tunnel NY has been operating since 1997 and because of its unusual structure and outstanding exhibitions, has been featured in The New York Times, Art in America, ArtForum and other leading publications.  After starting the Holland Tunnel in New York it seemed natural for the director, Dutch born artist Paulien Lethen who lived many years on Paros and divides her time between NY and Paros, to extend the gallery to Paros and have exhibitions based on Greek themes.
