Sideshow and Holland Tunnel galleries are pleased to present Double Feature with paintings and watercolours by Jan Mulder and sculptures by Bix Lye. It is the first time the galleries are collaborating to show works of two artists at the same time.
The abstract works by Mulder relate to the Northern European tradition of romantic landscape painting. The sculptures by Lye can be placed in the context of American hard edge Minimalism. Although the works are very different, there are surprising similarities to be experienced.
Lye lives and works in Williamsburg NY. Mulder is based in Utrecht/Netherlands and regularly visits and works in NY. Both artists spend part of the year in Greece and have shown together in several group shows. In Double Feature they create a meeting point where two extremes come together, making full use of the diversity of the gallery spaces.
At the opening receptions a Double Feature catalogue, with an introduction by Serge Gavronsky, and the book “Jan Mulder, paintings and watercolours 1994 – 2006”, with an essay by Dominique Nahas, will be presented.
The catalogue and the book will be available in both galleries.
